Back to Black (She Said)

from Apothecaries by Fugitive Orchestra

/

about

I recorded this as something of a tribute to the late, great Ms. Winehouse, whose encyclopedic knowledge of Jazz, Soul and Blues and instantly memorable voice have been a considerable influence on my music.

In an attempt to have a bit of fun with the song, (and to put my own 'stamp' on it, as they say) I thought I'd turn my version into a medley, with the equally brilliant Plan B's "She Said".

lyrics

She left no time to regret,
Kept his dick wet –
With his same old safe bet.
And me, with my head held high
And my tears dry get on without my guy.
And you went back to what you knew,
So far removed from all that we went through.
And I tread a troubled track,
The odds are stacked: I'll go back to black.

We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to:
Us.

I love you too much, it's not enough;
You love blow and I love puff.
And life is like a pipe,
And I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside.

We only said goodbye with words,
I died a hundred times.
You go back to her and I’ll go back to black.

She said: “I love you boy, I love your soul,”
She said: “I love you baby, oh, oh, oh.”
She said: “I love you more than words can say,”
She said: “I love you baby, eh, eh, eh, eh.”

We only said goodbye with words,
I died a hundred times.
You go back to her and I’ll go back to,
I’ll go back to black.
